Overview
Gender-affirming voice and communication services help transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse people bring voice and communication in line with their gender expression. The client defines the goal; the SLP brings skill in pitch, resonance, intonation, voice quality, articulation, pragmatics and nonverbal communication, plus vocal health. It is within the SLP scope of practice (ASHA), and it is not the treatment of a disorder: many clients have healthy voices. Voice Disorders & Treatment holds a short summary; Laryngeal Anatomy & Voice Production and Speech Science & Phonetics explain the pitch and formant physics used here.
